Granbury Athletic Association Pitch Count As of Fall 2019 Baseball Season, Granbury Athletic Association will be following a pitch count instead of an innings limit, as recommended by MLB Pitch Smart Guidelines. It is important to set workload limits for pitchers to limit the likelihood of pitching with fatigue. Research has shown that pitch counts are the most accurate and effective means of doing so. General Expectations: Pitch count limit is determined after each single game appearance. Only official game pitches will count (not warm-up pitches). Rest days are counted for the full day regardless of appearance start time. (ex: Pitcher throws 75 pitches on Friday. Rest days are Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. He is eligible to pitch on Wednesday, not Tuesday night). A pitcher will be allowed to complete the current at-bat even if they hit pitch count max during the at-bat, but must exit as a pitcher after that hitter regardless of what the batter does. There are no restrictions on allowing any game day pitcher (starter or reliever) from resuming play in the field after being removed as a pitcher, regardless of pitch count. Starting Spring 2023: In the 10U-14U divisions, any player that has played the position of catcher may not be used as a pitcher in that same game. As well, any player that has been used as a pitcher may not play the position of catcher in the same game. Tournament: In tournaments, pitch count can be divided into separate appearances as long as combined total does not exceed appropriate pitch count max. Days of rest will be determined by final pitch count of the tournament. Pitch Count Accountability and Reporting: Each game will need an official pitch counter provided by both teams. The official pitch counter will not be allowed to be in the dugout during games. Team representative should meet between innings to verify counts. Pitch counts will be verified at the conclusion of the game with a signature on a verification form. The home team is responsible for submitting the verification form to their league commissioner, when reporting the score, by the end of the night. The commissioner will then report the pitch count to the VP of Baseball for all leagues. Umpires will NOT have any jurisdiction or involvement in pitch count. Penalties: 1st offense - forfeiture of that game 2nd offense - 2 game suspension
